Unilever, the Anglo-Dutch parent of Elizabeth Arden Co. of Roanoke, on Friday reported earnings equal to $568 million for the second quarter, or $2.03 per share, down 3 percent from $588 million, or $2.10 a share, a year earlier. (Dollar figures are based on average currency exchange rates from British pounds and Dutch guilders.)
Revenues were $11.53 billion, up 8 percent over $10.65 billion a year ago. For the first six months, the company reported earnings of $1.01 billion, or $3.60 per share, down 2 percent from $1.03 billion, or $3.66 per share a year earlier. Revenues were $21.59 billion, up 6 percent over $20.32 billion.

Vishay offering nets $108 million
Vishay Intertechnology Inc., Malvern, Pa., parent of Vitramon Inc. of Roanoke, said Friday it has completed its common stock offering of 2.75 million shares, yielding $108,748,750 in net proceeds. Proceeds will be used to prepay a portion of the bank debt that financed the company's purchase of Vitramon.
Vishay Intertechnology is the largest U.S. and European manufacturer of fixed resistors, resistive sensors and tantalum capacitors, and a leading producer of film capacitors, inductors and other passive electronic components. Vitramon makes ceramic capacitors used mostly by the automobile industry.

Bankruptcy filing
One bankruptcy with a business affiliation was filed this week in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Western Virginia at Roanoke. It is a personal bankruptcy that the court listed as a business because it has commercial connections and could be of interest to business creditors and customers.
Lewis Edward Addair of North Tazewell filed for liquidation, listing assets of $60,200 and liabilities of $1,665,695. Addair trades as E&A Equipment Co.
