"I just sat in the car and turned left," Pennington said. "I was cruising."
Pennington found his destination easily, winning the 75-lap Late Model Stock Car feature race of the J-93.5 FM 300.
Pennington, who started on the outside behind pole-sitter Dudley Lawhorn, took the lead permanently on lap 2. Except for cautions on laps 4 and 6, Pennington barely touched the brake pedal.
The victory was Pennington's third in a row, and fourth in five races. Only a disqualification on July 23 prevented him from being 5-for-5.
"We were down for a couple of years," Pennington said. "But we're back."
The tightest racing was for second. Points leader Lawhorn held the No. 2 position for nearly 60 laps, until Kenny Wagner and Carl Dadian, who finished second and third, passed him.
Lawhorn and 10-time winner Rodney "Six-Pack" Cundiff placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
