BERNER, Opal Richardson, 91, of Roanoke, died Friday, August 12, 1994. She was the widow of Lawrence R. Berner and a member of South Roanoke United Methodist Church. Mrs. Berner is survived by her sister, Mrs. James W. Walton, Little Rock, Ark.; nephews, Richard Edwin Walton, Curtis Lawrence Ridgeway, both of Arkansas; and a number of great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, 1994 at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, with Dr. Donald H. Roberts officiating, with burial to follow in Evergreen Burial Park. CREASY, Willie Mason, 74, of Route 3, Bedford, passed away, Sunday, August 14, 1994, in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was born February 17, 1920, in Campbell County, a daughter of the late William Mason and Sally Lynch Mason. Her husband was the late Fred C. Creasy. She was a member of the Morgans Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Fred C. Creasy, Jr., Culpeper, Gary William Creasy, Winnsboro, South Carolina; a daughter, Sandra Kaye Creasy, Moneta; three sisters, Nannie Tucker, Sally Blankenship, both of Evington, Mandy Harding, Lynchburg; two granddaughters, Angie M. Creasy, Culpeper, Kathryn Dawn Creasy, Winnsboro, South Carolina. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, August 16, 1994, at 11 a.m. from the Greenwood Cemetery by the Rev. Tommy Speight. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service at the cemetery, and request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Moneta Rescue Squad or Gideons International. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.

DILLON, Dotsy Evelyn, 86, of Rocky Mount, died Sunday, August 14, 1994, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Rocky Mount. She was born May 13, 1908, the daughter of the late Thomas N. and Victory Smith Brown. Preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Dillon. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Evelyn and Grady Peters, Collinsville, Va.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Nancy Dillon, Rocky Mount, Garnett and Nancy Dillon, Midlothian, Va.; one sister, Era Lumsden, Wirtz, Va.; two brothers, Archie Brown, Roanoke, Clyde Brown, Redwood, Va.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 1994, at Lynch Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. J.D. Hunt III. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. DUNLAP, Richard Freeman, 72, of Roanoke, died Saturday, August 13, 1994 at his home. He was an alumnus of Hampden-Sydney College, a decorated veteran of World War II, and retired president of Norfolk and Western Railway Co. Survivors are his wife, Marie Fallwell Dunlap; son and daughter-in-law, Richard F. Dunlap Jr. and Katherine Gardner Dunlap of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Anne D. Stephenson and Alan E. Stephenson of Roanoke; and grandchildren, Richard F. Koehler of Roanoke, Elizabeth Anne Kanady of Roanoke, Martha Dunlap and Cary Dunlap of Charlotte. A private graveside service will be held. HARDY, Rev. Joseph Edward, 89, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, August 13, 1994 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Rev. Hardy was born in Lunenburg County, Va. on June 18, 1905, a son of the late Henry Thomas Steinback Hardy and Mary Campbell Wilson Hardy. He was a 1929 graduate of Lynchburg College, where he prepared for the ministry and teacher in public schools. After graduation, he accepted a position with AT&T in New York City. He returned to Virginia in 1932 to accept an appointment in Southside Virginia as high school principal and teacher of Literature, History and Biology. During World War II, he was with the War Food Administration as a field and public relations worker. He was responsible for helping control the production of certain crops critical to the military effort and to help the farmers get needed equipment and supplies to produce crops. After the war, he became manager of Rad-Tech, helping veterans return to school. In 1950, he became Director of Student Housing at Va. Tech, a position he held until his retirement in 1970. Throughout his career with Va. Tech, he served as interim pastor for several area churches. After his retirement, he became full-time pastor at Snowville Christian Church. He also was known throughout the Southwest Virginia as an expert on wildflowers. He identified and photographed four hundred species which are preserved on color slides. He was sought after by civic and church groups for slide presentations and pilgrimages into woods for guided tours. Some of his photographs can be seen today along the walls of the Cancer Center of Southwest Virginia in Roanoke. He will be missed by many church families and others who have anticipated his messages, delivered with zeal and laced with touches of poetry and good humor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Paddock Hardy. Survivors includ e two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Celeste Hardy, Fairfax, and Robert and Judy Hardy, Roanoke; three grandchildren, Kevin and Matthew Hardy, Fairfax, and Kristel Hardy, Roanoke; two sisters, Elizabeth Robertson, Kenbridge, and Dorothy Dunnington, Bowling Green. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, 1994 at Blacksburg Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), with the Rev. Holly O. Phillips and the Rev. Johnny Loughridge officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday and Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.

HINES, Bernice B., 90, of Lindside, W. Va., died Saturday, August 13, 1994 at a Lindside Care Center. She was born August 13, 1904 at Lindside and was the daughter of the late Soloman and Lizzie Campbell Broyles. She was a retired merchant, where she had operated Hines General Store in Lindside. She was a faithful member of the Rock Camp Missionary Baptist Church for 73 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, L. R. Hines, one brother, three sisters and two great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, Irvin Hines and his wife, Dean, and J. E.``Jim"" Hines and his wife, Joan, all of Lindside, W. Va.; one sister, Fanny Webb of Peterstown, W. Va.; four grandchildren, Dan, Mike, Robin and Pam; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 1994 at the Broyles Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, W. HOLMES, Floyd William Sgt., 27, of Thaxton, passed away Saturday, August 13, 1994. He was a veteran of 3 years in Korea; 3 years in Germany and a veteran of Desert Storm. He was a member of Veteran of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Barbara and Douglas Wheeler of Thaxton; a brother, David W. Holmes of Vinton; sister, Debora h M. McGhee and was preceded in death by her husband, Odell Huffman and one daughter, Norma Jean Martin and was a member of the Waverly Place Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Barry L. SCOTT, Charles Malcolm, 73, of Pearisburg, died Saturday, August 13, 1994, in Giles Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Mr. Scott was a retired employee of the Hoechst-Celanese; a member of the Ingram Village Methodist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII. He was born at Goodwins Ferry, Va. on November 10, 1920, and was a son of the late C. M. Scott and Audrey Kirk Scott. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Hollins Scott and a grandson, Tony Bradley; five brothers and one sister. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Deloris and Dorsey Bradley of Rich Creek, Va., Eleanor Jean and Donald Linkous of Rich Creek, Va., Charlotte and Thomas R.
