PLUCKING, BOWING WIN FIDDLER TITLE

Galax fiddle player Greg Hooven was named Best All Around Performer at the 59th annual Old Fiddler's Convention in Galax on Sunday. Approximately 2,100 bands and individuals from as far away as York, England, entered the competition, though not all actually performed.

Hooven won first place in the Old Time Fiddle category. His plucking and bowing skills netted him a trophy and $135.

Hooven plays with the New Ballard's Branch Boggtrotters, a Galax band that took first place in the Old Time Bands category.
