ROANOKE VALLEY ECONOMIC INDICATORS

July was another good month for new-car dealers in the Roanoke Valley. The 725 new cars registered here represented a gain of 7.5 percent over 674 reported a year ago. It was, however, 26.5 percent below June's 987 new cars. Year-to-date sales were 5,662, outpacing the year-ago figure of 4,034 by 40 percent.

The value of building permits shot up last month to nearly $21.2 million on 456 permits issued. But of that amount, $12.7 million was due to expansion of the Hanover Direct distribution warehouse on Hollins Road.
