DUBLI - NRCC's Job Training Program has obtained a federal grant of over $25,000 which will provide skills training in refrigeration and air conditioning servicing to dislocated workers in the valley. Provided by the Economic Dislocated Worker Adjustment Assistance program, the funding will enable the college to conduct high-quality job training in an effort to help eligible 12 laid-off workers find work.
Participants will prepare for jobs through a 21-credit program in refrigeration, electrical math, applied electricity, residential wiring and refrigerant recovery. The course is scheduled Sept. 15 through June 1995. Counseling, tutorial services, note-taking, evaluation, resource and referral and transition assistance will be provided.
For eligibility requirements, call Patricia Ryan, 674-3608 or Jo-ell Burnett, 639-1963.
Dublin recycling
DUBLIN - Starting next month, town residents will find it easier to recycle newspapers. Dublin begins free curbside collection of newspapers in residential areas Sept. 2. A local firm will recycle the newsprint.
Town crews will collect papers on the north side of U.S. 11 - including Maple, Roseberry and Vermillion - on first and third Fridays, and on the south side of U.S. 11 - including Main, Dunbar and Zeigler - on second and fourth Fridays. Papers must be bundled and bound with twine and set out the morning of the collection day. Crews will pick up 1-3:30 p.m.
Town officials plan to review the trial program early next year to determine whether to continue it. The town encourages residents to deposit other recyclables at the collection center at Wades Supermarket. The center is jointly sponsored by the town, Wades and the New River Resources Authority. Call 674-4731 or 674-5791.
