LOW MOOR GIRL, 16, SHOT, KILLED IN CLIFTON FORGE

A 16-year-old girl was shot and killed by a stray bullet during a fight Monday night in Clifton Forge.

Carlene Hamm of Lowmoor was shot in the chest about 9:30 as she stood in front of the house at 321 B St., Officer S.S. Wynn said.

Wynn said police are trying to sort out events that led to the shots.

Hamm and some friends were at the house, which police believe two families occupied, to visit her cousin when an argument broke out.

Floyd Melvin Wall, 46, of 240 Roxbury St., who was visiting his brother but was no relation to Hamm, was charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm after having been convicted of a felony, police said.

Hamm died shortly after being taken to Alleghany Regional Hospital.
