STEPPING INTO FIGHT FATAL TO BASSETT MAN

A Bassett man breaking up a fight between his son and another man died after he was punched in the face, fell backwards and struck his head on a curb outside a convenience store, police said Tuesday.

Charles Lee Ross, 55, of Route 2, Bassett, died Monday. Jake Russell Hairston Jr., 19, of Bassett, was charged with involuntary manslaughter, police said. He also was charged with assault and battery against Jeffrey Lee Ross, 33, of Bassett.
