TULTEX UNION VOTE STARTS TODAY

Workers at Tultex Corp.'s Martinsville plant will begin voting on union representation at 11 a.m. today.

The balloting process will continue until 9 p.m. Thursday, and results of the election should be available by 10:30 p.m., officials of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union said.

The election, to be conducted by the National Labor Relations Board, ends a seven-week battle between the union and Tultex executives, who say union representation would hurt the company.

The textile union has failed in four previous attempts to organize at the Martinsville plant.
