VOLUNTEERS WITH HEART

Volunteers with the Montgomery County American Heart Association really put their hearts into fund-raising efforts. They had a record-breaking year for 1993-94, raising over $52,000 with the support of many Montgomery County residents.

``We were fortunate to have recruited a number of new volunteers this year, who, in partnership with our longtime dedicated supporters, did a wonderful job,'' said Jim Lyons, president of the unit.

According to the American Heart Association, in the past decade the death rate from heart disease dropped more than 25 percent, and the death rate from stoke fell by more than 30 percent. ``We believe it is important to provide the local community with vital information about living heart-healthy lives,'' said Jill Gurganus, educational chairwoman.
