WOMEN'S 5K RUN PLANNED FOR AUG. 27

The Women's Distance Festival 5K Run will be Aug. 27 at 8:30 a.m. The run, sponsored by Physicians to Women, the Star City Striders Running Club and Dixon, Hubbard and Feinour Investment Counsel, is held annually to promote fitness and health for women in the Roanoke Valley.

In team competition, there will be first places for mother-daughter and sisters categories. The first five overall finishers will get awards, and medals will be given to top three in each age group.

T-shirts will be given to all participants who register before the race, and race day registrants will receive T-shirts on a first-come basis. There will also be an awards ceremony immediately following the race.

Entry fees are $9 for registration by mail if postmarked by Friday and $12 for day-of-race registration, which will be held from 7 to 8 a.m.
