ARRINGTON, John Herman, 83, of Penhook, died Thursday, August 18, 1994, at Franklin Memorial Hospital. He was born October 31, 1910, the son of late Walter and Katie Barbour Arrington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Robertson Arrington. Surviving are one daughter, Jean Cook, Charlotte, N.C.; five sons, Edward Alvia Arrington, Salem, Va., James Arrington, Bassett, Va., Tony Arrington, Ridgeway, VA., Davis Arrington, Danville, Va. and Danny Arrington, Figsboro, Va.; one siter, Christine Godby, Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Jess Arrington, Penhook, Va.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be Saturday, August 20, 1994, 2 p.m. at Forest Hill Christian Church Cemetery, Snow Creek, Va., with Reverends Ted Clifton, Brian Vaughan and J. D. BLAIR, Thomas Jackson Sr., 90, of Covington, died Wednesday, August 17, 1994. Funeral 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Loving Funeral Home Chapel.

CARPENTER, Gilmer Wilson, 77, of Austinsville, died Wednesday, August 17, 1994, at Twin County Community Hospital, Galax. He was born in Carroll County on February 22, 1917, son of the late Frank K. and Mary Mitlda Beasley Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter was retired from New Jersey Zinc Co. with over 43 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Round Knob Church of Christ. He was a member of Hillsville Masonic Lodge #193 A.M.F.M., Roanoke Scottish Rite and Kazim Temple, Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Amanda Primm Carpenter; a sister, Mamie Cochran and brothers, Paul, Raymond, Elmer and Arnold Carpenter and a son-in-law, James H. Beck. He is survived by daughter, Christine C. Beck, Hillsville; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara C. and Robert F. Jett, Hillsville and son and daughter-in-law, Roger G. and Phyllis C. Carpenter of Woodlawn; brother and sister-in-law, William Rush and Edith Carpenter, Winston-Salem, N.C.; five grandson, Eddie Beck, Mike Beck, Pat Beck, Franklin Jett and Tyler Carpenter; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, August 19, 1994, at the Round Knob Church of Christ, Austinsville, with A. Lowell Altizer and Rev. Richard Gregory officiating with burial in the church cemetery. Masonic rites will be conducted at the graveside by Hillsville Masonic Lodge #193. CARR, Perlie Etta, 67, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, August 17, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irby A. Carr, and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Carley and Alice Carr, Roanoke; son, Barry Carr, South Hill, Va.; three grandchildren, Carla Ralfton, Scott Carr, Sherry Carr, all of Roanoke; sisters, Mabel Rojas and Mollie Bilyeu, both of Melbindale, Mich., Cora Hosey, Sterling Heights, Mich., Macey Browning, North Tazewell, Va.; one brother, Dranon Bowman, North Tazewell. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel by the Rev. Frank Wimmer, with burial at the Copper Hill Church of the Brethren, Floyd Co. CRAIGHEAD, Leonard C., 66, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, August 18, 1994. He was a retired employee of Pitzer Transfer. Surviving are his wife, Rachel K. Craighead; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael D. and Vickie Craighead, David C. Craighead; daughters, Patricia A. Craighead, Barbara L. Craighead, all of Roanoke; grandchildren, Jeanette L. HARRIS, Michael (``Douglass""), of Bedford, died Thursday, August 18,1994. He was born July 14, 1970 in Washington, D.C., the oldest son of Robert and Phyllis Harris. On September 14, 1990, Michael (Douglass) married Molly Buchanan, of Lynchburg and to that union, Megan Alyannah and Matthew Corwyn were born, whom he loved very much. Michael (Douglass) enjoyed a rich family life in Bedford, which he shared with his sister and brother, Monica Harris and Maurice Harris. He is survivied by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Savannah Harris; maternal grandparents, Oscar and Mable Otey; mother and father-in-law, Janet and Ronald Buchanan; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 20, 1994, at 1 p.m. in the Bedford Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Fairmont Cemetery, Bedford. HINCHEE, Charles Arthur, 76, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, August 17, 1994. Surviving are his brothers and sisters-in-law, James D. ``Snipe'' and Helen P. Hinchee, George E. Jr. and Frances M. Hinchee, William B. and Susan F. Hinchee; four nieces, Martha Porterfield, Susie Kelley, Donna Lynn Reid, Langley Anne Lester; two nephews, David Hinchee, and Jeffrey C. Hinchee. HOLLAND, Fannie Mitchell, 82, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, August 17, 1994. She is survived by one daughter, Ms. Barbara E. Holland, Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Elaine S. Ware, Roanoke; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alfonso Holland Sr. and Sarah Holland, both of Roanoke; niece, Carol Bailey, Palm Springs, Fla.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. JONES, Mabel Irene Carden, of Blacksburg, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, August 17, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Lee Jones. She was a member of Gateway Baptist Church. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Douglas and Teresa Butler Jones, Blacksburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Jones and Edward Walter Clemmons, Richmond; grandson, Stephen Taylor Jones, Blacksburg; brothers, Paul Lynwood Carden, Hopewell, and Earl David Carden, Baltimore, Md.; sisters, Reva Frances Carden McCoin, Loveland, Ohio and Ella Louise Carden Stanley, Christiansburg; and dear friend, G. LARGEN, Sally N., 91, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, August 17, 1994, in a local hospital. Mrs. Largen was the widow of W.M. Largen and was preceded in death by a grandson, William T. Largen. She was a member of Rosalind Hills Baptist Church and Carrie Lee Chapter #108 O.E.S. Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, J.N. and Sarah L. Largen, Roanoke; grandchildren, Michael James Largen, Vicki Lee Martin, Sarah Katherine Largen; great-grandchildren, Erik & Jered Largen & Scott Martin. PARKER, Sylvia Eve, 2 month old, daughter of Ronald E. and Angela Dickerson Parker of Christiansburg, died suddenly Thursday, August 18, 1994 at her home. Also surviving are her grandparents, Charles and Dorothy Dickerson, Danny and Margaret Parker all of Christiansburg; great-grandparents, Junior and Dorothy Blankenship, Salem, Alma Quesenberry, Radford; an uncle, Charles Dickerson Jr., Christiansburg. PAYNE, Lelia Elaine, 68, of Lexington, died Tuesday, August 16, 1994, in the local hospital. A daughter of the late Lelia A. and William Mack, Sr., she was born November 6, 1925, in Lexington. She was a graduate of Christiansburg Normal Institute and a retiree from Stonewall Jackson Hospital. A lifelong member of the First Baptist Church, she served faithfully in its musical activities. Other affiliations include Helping Hand Club, Ladies Auxillary of the American Legion Post 291, 8 Queens Social Club and the N. A. A. C. P. Surviving are two sons, William C. Payne, Jr., Washington, D. C. and Robert E. Payne, Landover, Md.; three daughters, Mrs. Janet P. Clark, Clinton, Md., Mrs. Shirley P. Ford, Uppe r Marlboro, Md. and Ms. Dorcus R. Payne, Lexington; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Eva Rich, Bennettsville, South Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Friends may call at the residence of Ms. Dorcus R. Payne, 105 Tucker Street at anytime and at the funeral home on Friday evening from 7 until 8 p.m. The funeral services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Rev. James B. SCHETTLER, Nancy Vogel, 57, of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., died July 28, 1994. She was born in St. Louis, Mo. and was a resident of Roanoke from 1959 to1975. Surviving are two sons, Daniel A. Schettler, Germantown, Md., William D. Schettler, Greenwich, Conn.; one daughter, Meta L. Schettler, Philadelphia, Pa. Funeral services were held in Desert Palm Springs, Calif. August 3, 1994.

SNIDER, Isaiah Randall Sr., 51, of Gold Bond, Va. died Wednesday, August 17, 1994, at his home. Born in Gold Bond, he was a son of the late Estil and Lou Carter Snider. He is survived by sons, Isaiah Randall Snider Jr., of Gold Bond, Va., Estil Ray Snider of Pembroke, Va. and Jeremy Rueben Snider of Narrows, Va.; four daughters, Mary Lou Wall of Trigg, Va., Anglea Renee Yopp of Newport News, Va., Suzanne Annette Snider of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Stephaine Kay Snider of Blacksburg, Va.; three brothers, Amos Snider of Pearisburg, Va., Daniel Snider of Marion, Va. and Eugene Snider of Catawba, Va.; two sisters, Margaret Lusk and Martha Barnett both of Hampton, Va. and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel at Pembroke. Burial will be in the Snider Cemetery at Gold Bond, Va. SOLOMON, Pamala D., 33 of 3800 Block of Towne Point Road, Portsmouth, died Tuesday, August 16, 1994, in her home. Mrs. Solomon was born in Pulaski, Va. She was an office clerk for Navy Resale for 15 years. Survivors include a daughter, Chanaye M. Solomon; a son, James Earl Price Solomon; her parents, Etta M. Johnson and Harry Johnson Jr.; and two brothers, Van D. Johnson and Doni V. Johnson, all of Portsmouth; one uncle; two aunts and nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Corprew Funeral Home by the Rev. Bill Smith and the Rev. Tony Newsome. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens, Dublin, Va. Viewing will begin at noon Friday, at the funeral home, where the family will be from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and where family and friends will assemble at 1:45 p.m. Friday for the funeral service. The family will leave Portsmouth at 8 p.m. Friday for the service in Dublin at 4 p.m. Saturday.

TURNER, Sadye Augusta, 101, of Salisbury, Md., died Wednesday, August 17, 1994 in the Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury. Mrs. Turner moved to Salisbury in 1979 to live with her son. She was formerly a member of the Radford Garden Club, a life member of the First Baptist Church in Radford and in Salisbury was a member of the Wicomico Presbyterian Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, John C. Turner; her parents, David McCarroll and Minnie Graybeal McCarroll. She is survived by one son, John C. Turner of Salisbury, Md.; one brother, Gray McCarroll of Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Rubye McCallum of Norfolk, Neb.; also four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Monday, August 22, 1994 at 11 a.m. from the Sunrise Burial Park in Radford with the Rev. Joe Burton officia ting. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. WADE, Searcie L., 99, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, August 17, 1994, in the Virginia Veterans Care Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary O. Wade and was a member of Melrose United Methodist Church. Mr. Wade was retired from Norfolk & Western Railway with over 40 years of service. He was a Army veteran of World War I. Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph C. and Marguerite T. Wade, Roanoke, Roy L. and Lori Wade, Granada Hills, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Frances and Richard A. Nelson, Roanoke; grandchildren, Calvin Wade, Roanoke, Elizabeth Wade, Salem; Steve Nelson, Ft. Meyers, Fla., Jill Vaeth and husband John, Bedford; great-grandchildren, Kelley Marie Vaeth, James Matthew Vaeth, nieces, Alice Nichols Proterra, Mary Frances Richeson. WARNER, Lucille Conner, 76, of Lexington, died Wednesday, August 17, 1994, in Shenandoah Health Care Facility, Buena Vista. Born April 20, 1918, in Rockbridge Co., she was the daughter of the late William Franklin Conner and Ella Nicely Conner. Mrs. Warner was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church and retired from R. L. Hess and Brother. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Blair Wilson Whitmore. Surviving are her husband, Roderick H. Warner, Lexington; two daughters, Carolyn Whitmore Edwards, Roanoke, Gloria Whitmore Clemmer, Lexington; one brother, A. C. Conner, Dayton, Ohio; one sister, Virginia Harlow, Lexington; one grandson, John Daniel Clemmer III, Lexington; thre e granddaughters, Rhonda Edwards, Roanoke, Tracy Clemmer, Roanoke, Kimberly Clemmer, Lexington; a number of nieces and nephews. He was born in Almogordo, New Mexico on November 20, 1915, a son of the late Alex and Mattie Winesett. Surviving are his wife, Eva Rose Winesett, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Steve and Peggy Winesett, Rocky Mount, Jeff & Sybil Winesett, Ferrum; one daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Danny Altice, Rocky Mount; four grandsons, Steve Winesett, Bethesda, Md., Andy Winesett, Greensboro, N.C., David Zeh and Mark Winesett; three granddaughters, Lori Winesett, Penhook, Amy Zeh, Riner, Becky Winesett, Ferrum; one brother, Pierc e Winesett, San Andreas, Calif.; two sisters, Velva Cox and Mattie Mae Flick, both of Galax; and a number of nieces and nephews. YOUNG, Mamie Cleo Keith, 68, of Route 1 (Hazel Hollow Road), Dublin, Va. passed away Wednesday, August 17, 1994, in the Radford Community Hospital. Born May 26, 1926, in Abingdon, Va. She was the daughter of the late Harlow Keith and Frances Keith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lewis Young; two sisters, Louise Rhoaten and Elizabeth Caudill and one brother, Marvin Keith. Surviving three sons, Robert Melvin Young, Dublin, Va., Dennis Wayne Young, Roanoke, Va., Woody Eugene Young, Dublin, Va.; five grandchildren; one sister, Dixie Taylor, Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Raymond Keith, Floyd, Va., Strafford Keith, Abingdon, Va.
