WINDSOR RACE NARROWS TO 2

The field for the Windsor Hills seat on the Roanoke County School Board has narrowed to two, with Thursday's withdrawal of Raymond Denney from the race.

Denney, who announced his candidacy in April, said he was dropping out for personal reasons.

"But this will not preclude me from running for office at a later date," said Denney, who had not sought elected office previously.

Denney is a quality-control reviewer for the state Department of Social Services.

The other candidates for the Windsor Hills seat are Lisa Merrill, a motivational lecturer and former schoolteacher, and Tom Leggette, a lawyer.

Elections also are being held this fall for the Vinton and Hollins seats. Candidates for all three must file petitions signed by 125 voters by next Friday.
