Plywood & Plastics Inc., a Richmond wholesale distributor to the cabinet industry, has opened a distribution center on Lukens Street in Roanoke.
The company for several months had been running a truck to Roanoke once a week and saw the opening of a center here as a natural expansion of that, said David Hornbeck, vice president.
Hornbeck, who manages the company's Norfolk center, has been helping Mike Greenwood, president and owner, set up the Roanoke facility. He said growth in the Interstate 81 corridor also encouraged the move.
Richard Hoffman is the office manager in Roanoke and Bob McDonnell is sales manager. The center has two other employees.

Caller ID to start giving names, too
Now, when the telephone rings, people who buy Caller ID get a readout of the number of the caller. After Monday, they also can get the caller's name.
Bell Atlantic customers in Virginia are the first in the mid-Atlantic region to be offered Caller ID Deluxe. The cost is $7.50 a month, which includes the $6.50 charge for Caller ID.
The service will not be available immediately in Pulaski, Hopewell and some parts of Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia. Call-switching centers in those areas have to be upgraded first. That should be done within a year, a Bell Atlantic-Virginia spokesman said.
