Hampton was sentenced to 30 years in prison by a North Carolina court for abducting a 62-year-old Greensboro woman from a Wal-Mart parking lot in March. The Pulaski County man was delivered to the Pulaski County jail Friday morning to await trial on malicious wounding, robbery and other charges, Sheriff Ralph Dobbins said.
Hampton will go before a Circuit Court judge Monday morning to have an attorney appointed for him, Dobbins said. A trial date should be set then.
Hampton is accused of robbing a Pulaski County man and attacking him with a claw hammer in November 1993. He was indicted for malicious wounding in that case.
In Montgomery County, Hampton is charged with carjacking, abduction and malicious wounding in connection with an assault on the owner of a car garage in Montgomery County, and the theft of a 77-year-old woman's car.
Hampton, who was convicted of murdering a 95-year-old woman in 1975, also awaits trial in West Virginia on charges of abduction and rape.
