AREHART, Chester Milton, 84, of Fincastle, died Friday, August 19, 1994 in Lewis-Gale Hospital. He was preceded in death by sisters, Marjorie Mabry and Ethel Gale and a brother, Lewis Arehart. His professional life was devoted to education, beginning as an elementary teacher in Buchanan and retiring as Registrar of the University of North Alabama, Florence, Alabama in 1972. He is survived by his wife, Joyce R. Arehart; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Richard Burlingame, Tavares, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Cindy Arehart, Scottsboro, Ala.; four grandchildren, Amy and Tamara Burlingame, Christopher and Callie Arehart. The family will receive friends and relatives at Rader Funeral Home, Buchanan, on Sunday night from 7 to 9 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted Monday, August 22, 1994, 11 a.m. in Fairview Cemetery, Buchan an with the Rev. DUNCAN, Georgia Quesenberry, 92, of Hiwassee, died Saturday, August 20, 1994, at Radford Community Hospital. Born August 25, 1901, she was the daughter of the late George W. Quesenberry and Sally Showalter. She is survived by her husband, Clark Duncan of Hiwassee; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 22, 1994, at 11 a.m. from the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Phillips and C. E. Mannon officiating. GARRETT, James Gordan, ""Blue"", 50, of Buena Vista, died at his home Friday, August 19, 1994. He was born March 3, 1944 in Rockbridge Co., the son of Lloyd Cecil Garrett of Buena Vista and the late Mildred Henderson Garrett. He is survived by his wife, Julie Broughman Garrett; a son, Jamie Garrett; a daughter, Virginia Suthers; and a grandson, Hunter Gordon Suthers, all of Buena Vista; three sisters, Shirley Floyd and Virginia Watkins, both of Dallas, Texas, Hazel Garrett, Buffalo, NY; and one brother, William Garrett, Buena Vista. Chapel services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, August 22, 1994. Interment will follow in the Greenhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lomax Funeral Home.
HAMILTON, Linda Carol Skeen, 47, of Ironto, formerly of Commack, N.Y., passed away Thursday, August 18, 1994, at her home. She was born on November 11, 1946, in Belzoni, Miss., the daughter of the late Willard Skeen. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Laura Virginia and John Webb; as well as two sisters, Sue and Sandra; two brothers, John and Michael. She was a devoted wife and mother who gave immeasurable strength and solid love to her husband, Richard (Dick); and ten children, Arina, Gordon, Susan, Kenneth, Brian, Rene, Michelle, Sean, Micha el, David; and 15 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two children, Laura and Andrew. To her friends, she was a source of great strength and wisdom, and she touched the lives of countless others at their restaurant, Mt. View Italian Kitchen, in Ironto. She will be deeply missed. Family receiving hours will be held on Monday between the hours of 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel with interment immediately following at the Sessler's Community Cemetery located adjacent to the Mt. PALMER, Carrie S., 91, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, August 20, 1994 in a local hospital. She was retired from Kenrose Manufacturing Company. She was the widow of Herbert W. Palmer and was preceded in death by two sons, Carl Sullivan and Eugene Sullivan and a daughter, Catherine Bushnell. Surviving are three daughters, Mildred S. Garlick, Juanita S. Snead, and June S. Hudgins, all of Roanoke; a step-daughter, Lucille McManaway; daughter-in-law, Mary Sullivan, both of Roanoke; ten grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. SMYTH, Lewis Donald, 84, of Roanoke, died in the Carolina Medical Center, Friday, August 19, 1994. He was a life long member of First Presbyterian Church and had retired from the Norfolk & Western Railway with 45 years service. Mr. Smyth was an avid outdoorsman, loved his family, and loved to play the piano. Surviving are his wife, Pauline Surber Smyth; a daughter, Jeanne Smyth-Roof and her husband, F. Garner Roof, Charlotte, N. C.; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Evie Barbour, Greenwood, S. C., Mrs. Ruth Price, Pearisburg; brothers-in-law, Harry Surber, Pulaski, Keith Barbour, Greenwood, S.C., Herbert Covey, Moneta; also three nieces. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel noon Monday, August 22, 1994 with the Rev. Phil West officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park. She attended Randolph Macon Womens College and was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She graduated from the school of Architecture Columbia University in New York City class of 1926. She was a member of Pi Delta Phi the French National Honor Society. She was a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church. She is survived by three sons, Stanley Capers Weinberg, Charles Phillips Mahood Weinberg and William Robert Weinberg; one sister, Mrs. Alton D. Fonville; four grandsons; three granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; one great-grandson. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Monday, August 22, 1994, at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church with Dr. Gregory L. Adkins and Dr. John Wesley Newman officiating. WYMS, Sadie Saunders, 78, of Radford, passed away Thursday, August 18, 1994 at the Radford Community Hospital. She was born in Vulcan, W.Va. on May 30, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Posey Saunders and Betty Wade Saunders. She was a former teacher in the Radford City Public Schools. She was also an exceptionally talented seamtress and worked in other crafts. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wyms and two brothers, Dennis and Ernest Saunders. She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Dennis Saunders, Radford; three brothers, Clyde Saunders, Alexandria, Saint Elmer Saunders, Cleveland, Ohio, and John Saunders, Arlington; six grandchildren; four sisters-in-law. Funerals service will be Monday 2 p.m. at New Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, Radford, with the Rev. Lyle Morton and Rev. H. A. Lindsey officiating. Burial will be at the Sunrise Burial Park, Fairlawn. There will be no visitation. Penn's Funeral Home, Pulaski, in charge of arrangements.
