Unfortunately for the Bucs, so did Durham as the teams split their Carolina League baseball games at Durham Athletic Park.
After Salem dropped the opener - a nine-inning makeup of Friday night's rainout - by a 3-1 count, three Bucs pitchers combined on a three-hit 2-0 victory in the nightcap.
Marc Wilkins held the Bulls to two hits in 5 2/3 innings to pick up the victory. Rich Townsend got one out to finish the sixth, and Matt Ryan finished the seven-inning game to record the save.
Catcher Marcus Hanel powered the Bucs' offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI single, and right fielder Dario Tena knocked in the other run with a sacrifice fly. Lou Collier and Jon Farrell also had two hits apiece as Salem knocked around Durham starter Mike D'Andrea.
In the opener, four pitchers combined to hold the Bucs to one run on six hits.
Starter Carey Paige gave up two hits and one walk in two innings. Aaron Turnier then earned the victory with 4 2/3 innings of shutout ball, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out four.
Bill Shafer gave up the only Salem run on Chance Sanford's solo home run in the sixth inning, and Carl Schutz worked a perfect seventh to earn the save.
Raymond Nunez led a five-hit Durham attack, going 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI.
Bucs starter Jason Abramavicius took the loss, giving up one run on one hit in two innings. Manuel Santana worked two scoreless innings, as did Terry Farrar.
Salem closer Sean Evans continued to struggle with his control. The right-hander walked three and gave up two runs and two hits in two innings.
