MAN FOUND SHOT IN HEAD OFF PARKWAY

A man was found dead in his car on the Bedford County section of the Blue Ridge Parkway on Sunday afternoon.

According to Gene Parker of the National Park Service, police received a call about 3 p.m. from someone who had seen tire tracks that extended over an embankment.

When Bedford County police and parkway rangers arrived at the scene, just north of Virginia 43, they found a car about 200 feet down the thickly wooded embankment.

When police pulled the car up, they found the body of a young man. He had been shot in the head, and a gun was found in the car.

Bedford County sheriff's officers would not release any further information Sunday.
