SALEM HIGH PLANS GRAND REUNION

A reunion of all high school graduations through the years in Salem will bring together several hundred alumni over the Labor Day weekend.

The Grand All-Alumni Class Reunion for graduates of any high school in Salem in any year will be held Sept. 2-4 at several sites in Salem.

Registration is $35.

The main event of the reunion will be a dinner-dance program Sept. 3 at the Salem Civic Center.

Speaker at that event will be Brad Braxton, an honor graduate of Salem High School, a Jefferson Scholar at the University of Virginia and a Rhodes Scholar. He is studying toward a doctorate at Emory University in Atlanta.

In addition to the main program on Saturday, alumni of several of the individual high schools will hold separate meetings on Friday night, Robert H. Hunt, chairman of the reunion committee, said.

And on Saturday afternoon there will be separate meetings of several special interest groups including athletes, band members, choral singers, publications staffers, architects and engineers.

High schools involved in the program are the original Salem High, Roanoke County Training School which was in Salem, G. W. Carver High, Andrew Lewis High and the present Salem High.

Hunt said a secondary aim of the reunion is to encourage contributions to the various scholarship funds managed by the Salem Educational Foundation and Alumni Association.

The Foundation is managing 21 scholarship funds with a total value of more than $500,000.

In the previous school term the Foundation awarded $21,000 in scholarships to Salem High seniors.
