TECH PLATE SALES BRING THE COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS

Virginia Tech has just received $39,405 from the Department of Motor Vehicles to be placed in the university's general scholarship fund. The money comes from sales of Virginia Tech license plates.

"To date we have over 1,700 active plates on the road," said Matt Winston, an information officer at Tech. The University of Virginia has 188 plates on the road and James Madison University has 733.

Last year, Tech earned $15,500 from the sale of the plates.

All told, Tech has raised almost $90,000 in scholarships for in-state students through license plate sales, Winston said.
