The New River Valley's two envoys to the MS. VIRGINIA SENIOR CITIZEN pageant - Doris Oliver of Christiansburg and Christine King of Dublin - will vie with nine other candidates from across the Commonwealth for the title as the pageant continues tonight at Roanoke's Patrick Henry High School.
King, 55, is the pageant's youngest contestant. She drives the Pulaski County Bookmobile. Oliver, 61, is retired. The reigning Ms. Virginia Senior Citizen, 63-year-old Polly Beck of Richmond, crowns the winner tonight. The pageant finale starts at 8. Tickets are $7.
The talent competition was Friday. Contestants also undergo an interview, model a daytime outfit and evening gown and answer an impromptu question on stage.
Other representatives from the New River Valley include radio newshawk Bob Thomas of Radford, the pageant's producer-director, and Pageant Director Dotty Talbott of Dublin. Talbott has more information on the pageant at 674-5534.
PULASKI SENIOR CENTER offers transportation to the Ms. Virginia Senior Citizen pageant. The van leaves the center at 5 p.m. Dinner is on your own at Old Country Buffet. It's $9, including pageant admission. This trip does not count against the one-trip-per-month limit.

Monday, the Shawsville group goes to Heritage Hall at 2 p.m.
Tuesday, the Warm Heath group goes to the Brookmeade birthday party at 2 p.m. The McCoy group visits Heritage Hall at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, The Christiansburg morning group visits Meadowbrook at 10 a.m., and the Christiansburg afternoon group visits Brookmeade at 2 p.m.
RSVP wants favorite Christmas or childhood memories from anyone 55 or older. These are being collected in a book to go on sale this year. If you can tell a tale but have trouble committing it to paper, call RSVP. They'll listen and write it down as you tell it. 382-5775.
