The Horizon Traveling Fashion Production will come to the Roanoke Civic Center on Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. for an evening of fashion entertainment with professional models, choreography music and multi-media presentations.
Tickets to the show are $15 and benefit the Junior League's efforts for affordable childcare in the Roanoke Valley. A special $35 ticket entitles the patron to a black-tie-optional gala and silent auction after the show. Tickets are available at Leggett customer service, Wheeler's Fast Service Laundry, the civic center box office (981-1201) and through Junior League members.
Mill Mountain auditions
Mill Mountain Theatre in Roanoke will hold regional auditions for adults and children on Sept. 17-18 in Theatre B on Church Avenue.
Adult auditions are by appointment only on Sept. 17. Children will be seen on Sept. 18 in an open call from 2-5 p.m. These preliminary auditions are for the 1994-95 season.
Adults should prepare two contrasting monologues and two songs, an up-tempo and a ballad with sheet music for the accompanist. A movement audition will be required if auditioning for a musical. To arrange an appointment, send a picture and resume to Casting Director, Roanoke Auditions, Mill Mountain Theatre, One Market Square, Roanoke, Va. 24011-1437. Actors who have worked with Mill Mountain recently should call Doug Patterson at 342-5792.
Children 7years and older should bring a photo and have memorized a story or poem and one short song (bring sheet music). They also should bring dance shoes or sneakers. Sign-ups will begin at 1:30 p.m. High School students interested in the Mill Mountain Youth Ensemble also will be seen at this time.
Mill Mountain's 1994-95 season includes ``Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,'' ``Romeo and Juliet,'' ``I Hate Hamlet,'' ``The King and I'' and ``Forever Plaid.'' The Theatre B season includes ``Deely and Du'' and ``Grace and Glorie.''
Arts and Crafts festival
The Martinsville Jaycees are accepting applications for their 16th annual Oktoberfest Arts and Crafts Festival. This year's event will be held on Oct. 1 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in Uptown Martinsville. For a registration form, call 638-3500 and leave a message with your mailing address.
Elder abuse meeting
The Virginia Coalition for the Prevention of Elder Abuse will hold its quarterly meeting at the Airport Holiday Inn in Roanoke on Sept. 7 from noon-3 p.m. The guest speaker will be Harriette Shivers, president of the Virginia Guardianship Association. She will talk about ``Guardianship as a Preventive Service.''
