PROPER FERTILIZATION OF HOME LAWNS

Injecting materials directly into trees to combast tree disease - giving them "a shot" as it were - is a method that has received some attention in recent years. Certain fungicides, fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides and growth regulators can be applied this way, and it's the quickest way to get a response from a tree. But, it's not as easy and effective as many homeowners think.

Injecting fungicides into American elms to combat Dutch elm disease is perhaps the best known use of this procedure. These materials are systemic and move rapidly throughout the plant. However, as most chemicals are preventive rather than therapeutic, they must be injected prior to infection.
