LOUIE WOOTEN has received the first-place award as the leading sales manager -1993 from the American Funeral Assurance Company.

DAVID CHEWNING of Roanoke recently was named best in his chapter in Chevrolet's Professional Service Council Regional competition.

DR. J. HAYDEN HOLLINGSWORTH, a Roanoke cardiologist, has been elected to a four-year term as president of the Virginia chapter of the American College of Cardiology.

IDS FINANCIAL SERVICES INC. has announced that several employees have received new designations. They are Joseph Craig Jr., a personal financial planner who has been named a master planner; and Ryan Long, a personal financial planner who has been named certified financial planner.

Suzanne Osborne, a certified financial planner, was invited to join the Gold Team, top 3 percent of IDS planners.

Osborne, who specializes in advanced business and estate planning, is the first woman to be selected to the Gold Team from Virginia.

GREGG S. WOOD, financial investigator with Trigon, has been named a certified fraud examiner by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. The designation is awarded to select professionals responsible for detecting, deterring and investigating fraud.

MICHAEL D. PORTER, formerly of Salem, has been named president and chief executive officer of Acheson Industries Inc. in Port Huron, Mich.

Porter joined the organization in 1991 as senior vice president responsible for U.S. operations and was in charge of European operations before becoming executive vice president and chief operating officer in 1993.

Porter is the son of Josephine Porter of Salem.

SHEILA L. JONES, a sales representative for Avon Products Inc., earned an all expense-paid trip to Orlando, Fla., by achieving sales totaling $75,400 in 1993.

Jones, of Roanoke, is one of 1,100 sales representatives out of 415,000 in the nation who qualified for the "National Honors Event" by reaching a minimum sales level of $75,000 in 1993.

KAREN H. JONES, agency manager at Allstate Insurance Co., has been designated Certified Insurance Counselor after completing an insurance education program sponsored by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors.

JAMES S. FRANCIS, president of Jackson Insurance Agency Inc. in Hillsville, was elected to a three-year term on the board of directors of the Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia Inc. He will be responsible for its 6th District boundaries, an area closely following the old Virginia 6th Legislative District boundaries.

Francis, formerly of Roanoke, also was president of the Independent Agents Association of Roanoke for two terms.

WILLIAM R. STOUT of Stout Insurance & Financial Services Inc. of Roanoke, has received membership in the Fortis Sales Elite Leaders Circle by the Fortis Financial Group. Membership is based on outstanding sales and service accomplishments to clients.
