NO PULASKI OFFICIALS AT OCT. 15 TUG-OF-WAR

It looks like Pulaski town officials will not be on hand Oct. 15 for a tug-of-war contest with their counterparts from Pulaski County.

That contest was being planned by Count Pulaski Day organizers. Pulaski Town Council members were unaware of it until Town Manager Tom Combiths brought a planned schedule of events to a Finance Committee meeting Thursday morning.

The committee had gathered to work on fiscal matters. But, Combiths said, ``council is going to work on its physical agility.''

Council members had varied reactions to the news until Councilman Jack Johnston noted the date of Count Pulaski Day. ``That's VML weekend,'' he said, referring to the annual meeting of the Virginia Municipal League.

``That's right,'' said Councilman Junior Black. ``We won't be here.''
