CATHOLIC WINS SEASON OPENER

Sophomore T.J. Joyce scored three touchdowns, including a game-breaking interception return in the fourth quarter, to help Roanoke Catholic beat Kenston Forest 32-12 Friday in the high school football season opener, giving Celtics coach John Cooke his 100th career victory.

With Roanoke Catholic (1-0) leading 14-6 in the fourth quarter, Moyer, a cornerback, picked off a pass and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown with 10 minutes, 3 seconds to play. He scored on a 20-yard run with 6:08 to play to make the score 26-6. After Kenston Forest (0-1) scored, Demond Lark scored on a 20-yard run to provide the final margin.

Moyer, who carried 13 times for 83 yards, scored on a 6-yard run to put the Celtics ahead 6-0 in the first quarter. Senior quarterback Tony Joyce ran 22 yards for a touchdown on a bootleg and added the two-point conversion to make it 14-0 in the second quarter.
