DAVID J. LOFGREN has been named director of transportation for Southwestern Virginia Transit Management Co., which operates Valley Metro in Roanoke. Lofgren was formerly assistant director of transportation. In his new position he will be reponsible for supervision of the transportation department, including budgeting and service planning.
Also at the company, AMANDA K. SNAPP has been appointed marketing director. She previously was the company's marketing and Rideshare coordinator. She will be responsible for all promotional activities at Valley Metro and will be the contact for Campbell Court tenants.
Joining the staff are J. PAT GLEASON, who has been hired as facility supervisor, and JOYCE YOUNG, administrative clerk.
BANKING
BECKY ARRINGTON GRINDSTAFF of Rocky Mount has been promoted to vice president of First Virginia Bank-Franklin County. Grindstaff, a branch administration manager, joined the bank in 1976. Also,TRICIA BERNARD CUSTER has been promoted to assistant vice president and KAREN JONES REYNOLDS has been named banking officer. Custer, manager of the Boones Mill branch office, joined the bank in 1977, and Reynolds, manager of the Tanyard branch office, joined the bank in 1973. First Virginia Bank-Franklin County is a member of First Virginia Banks Inc., the oldest bank holding company based in Virginia.
COLLEGES
STANARD F. LANFORD JR. has been appointed to Virginia Western Community College's local advisory board. He will represent Roanoke County on the board. Lanford is president and chief executive officer of Lanford Brothers Co. of Roanoke, which specializes in bridge repairs.
FINANCIAL SERVICES
ALAN M. MOORE has joined Wheat First Butcher Singer in Roanoke as a financial consultant. Before joining Wheat First, Moore worked for almost 14 years for what is now First Union National Bank of Virginia's private banking group. Moore is a certified financial planner.
GOVERNMENT
JOHN D. WILLEY, property manager for Roanoke County, was elected to a two-year term on the international board of governors of the American Society of Appraisers. He will represent a region that covers Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, West Virginia, the District of Columbia and a portion of South Carolina. He also has been elected vice chairman of the real property committee of the society. Willey also will take office as president of the Virginia Association of Assessing Officers in September.
W. HEYWOOD FRALIN, a Roanoke lawyer, has been appointed by Gov. George Allen to the Virginia Biotechnology Research Park Authority. The corporate research park for life sciences is adjacent to the Medical College of Virginia campus of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
Fralin is vice chairman and chief executive officer of Roanoke-based Medical Facilities of America Inc. He is a member of the board of visitors at Virginia Tech and is a trustee for the University of Virginia's Real Estate Foundation.
NONPROFITS
The Roanoke Valley Speech and Hearing Center in Roanoke has elected three new members to its board of directors for three-year terms. They are LEIGH P. HUFF JR., vice president of commercial banking at First Union National Bank of Virginia; PETER B. MILWARD, a partner and branch manager of J.C. Bradford & Co. in Roanoke; and DR. PETER A. WALLENBORN JR., a retired physician who founded the Roanoke Ear Nose & Throat Clinic.
OFFICE PRODUCTS
BILL GALLI has been appointed service operations manager for Copy Van Inc. He began his career with the company as a field service engineer in 1981 and was most recently service manager. Copy Van, based in Richmond, is a division of Alco Standard Corp. of Valley Forge, Pa., and has offices in Roanoke and Lynchburg.
