TEEN'S CONDITION CRITICAL

A teen-ager whose legs were severed when he was struck by a train Friday night is listed in critical condition at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The 17-year-old, whose name is not being released, apparently was lying on the tracks near Elliston with his legs over the rail when an eastbound maintenance train ran over him.

Bob Auman, a spokesman for Norfolk Southern Corp., said the accident occurred between 9:35 and 9:40 p.m. Friday.

Lt. Jeff Hodges of the Elliston Fire Department said the young man seemed to be alone at the time. No one at the fire department knew the victim's name.
