YOUR KEY TO RADFORD BUS ROUTES

School buses will begin circling Radford tomorrow collecting neighborhood children for another year of school.

Five bus routes - buses 1, 2, 3 and 5 (there is no No. 4) and a noon kindergarten bus - will serve the city.

Morning kindergarten pupils will ride to school with the other elementary pupils. A special noon route picks up afternoon kindergarten pupils and takes home morning kindergarten pupils. Afternoon kindergarten pupils will ride home with the other pupils.

Except for kindergarten children, pupils will ride the same bus home as they do in the morning.

Pupils should stand at the nearest corner or intersection on the designated routes. For safety reasons, buses will not stop in the middle of a block. Check route maps in each school office if you cannot locate your bus from these descriptions.

Parents whose children have never ridden a bus are asked to help by taking these steps:

Take children to the bus stop in the morning and meet them in the afternoon until they are able to get on and off the bus at the right location and get home independently.

Until they become familiar with the bus stop, send children to school with notes pinned to their clothing that explain where they are to get off the bus in the afternoon. The notes should specify the correct bus number and the point along the established route where they should get off, not their home address.

Contact the school if your child is not on the bus in the afternoon. Bus drivers will return any child to school who is on the wrong bus or does not know where he or she is supposed to get off.

Bus fare will be 20 cents each way. The bus driver will not make change. A book of tickets can be bought at each school.
