BRIEFLY PUT . . .

ALAS, on average, Virginia's college-bound students showed no improvement on this year's SAT exam. Their verbal score fell slightly below last year's, and the math score was a full 10 points below the national average.

A nice fact is that, based on where Virginia students are having their SAT scores sent, Virginia Tech is the college most sought after.

But Tech has come a long way from the days when it was known as Hokie High. It's a top-notch academic and research university.

Its faculty shouldn't have to spend time teaching Virginia students things they have should have learned in high school.
