Groggins, who qualified on the pole in a 72-car field with a speed of 102 mph, led the first eight laps of the 19-lap event before hitting a back marker. The accident caused Groggins to lose the hood and right fender on his Oldsmobile Cutlass and drop to third by lap 12.
But Groggins was able to regain the lead with five laps to go - without the hood and fender - and claimed his fourth victory of the season by one second over Max Lagod of Chicago.
Groggins' next competition will be the national championships Oct. 16 in Mansfield.
