FOURSOME WAS DRIVEN

These four guys will do anything to spend a day on the golf course - especially for a good cause: Jay Phillips, Jimmy Phillips, Chris Ferguson and Scott Thomas, all of whom are associated with Virginia Tech athletics, participated in the "Longest Day of Golf" sponsored by the Radford-Montgomery Unit of the American Cancer Society at the Blacksburg Country Club.

Local pledges ranged from 15 to 20 cents per hole played.

The money will go to support American Cancer Society services to patients and to cancer education projects here in the community as well to cancer research conducted in Virginia.

From sunup to sundown, the foursome played a total of 63 holes. They played their first 18 holes in about 21/2 hours.

"Thanks to the generosity of these four people and the Blacksburg Country Club, it was both a fun and successful day," said John Ballein, of the Virginia Tech Athletic Department, who recruited the players.

Contributions to the American Cancer Society can be mailed to the Radford-Montgomery Unit, P.O. Box 446, Christiansburg, Va. 24073.
