SPORE NAMED VMI DIRECTOR OF PERSONNEL

Robert Spore, an administrator with the Virginia Community College System, has been named director of personnel for his alma mater, Virginia Military Institute.

Spore starts his new job this week, succeeding Geraldine Burch, who retired Aug. 1 after 34 years.

Spore, who holds a master's degree in management and public administration from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., served in the U.S. Air Force in Germany and New Mexico. He has worked as the classification and compensation supervisor for the state's community colleges since 1986.

"With his experience, his military background and understanding of both higher education and VMI, Bob will be an excellent fit as our personnel director," said Gen. John Knapp, president of VMI.
