BOUCHER VOWS CLEAN CAMPAIGN

In one of a series of Democratic open houses he held throughout the 9th District this weekend, Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Abingdon, pledged to run a clean campaign.

"This is an entirely positive campaign," Boucher said Saturday afternoon before a crowd of supporters. "By contrast, you will see personal attacks, personal criticisms and negative ideas presented" by opponents.

Also, Boucher urged his supporters to "make sure on Nov. 8 we return to office a hard-working senator in Chuck Robb."

"He gets the job done for us," Boucher said. "He always responds promptly, and he always responds effectively."

Saturday's open house was Boucher's first public appearance in Montgomery County since the campaign officially began on Labor Day. A Democratic reception and dinner is planned for Oct. 15 at the Best Western Red Lion in Blacksburg.
