PUNCHLESS GENERALS FALL TO R-MC

The Washington and Lee offense failed to score for the third straight game and the Generals fell 19-0 to Randolph-Macon in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference football game Saturday.

W&L coach Gary Fallon used three different quarterbacks, but none could spark the Generals (0-3 overall, 0-2 ODAC).

``We just couldn't get anything going,'' Fallon said. ``I wish I had the answer. If I did, I would have corrected what's wrong by now.''

Bryan Lewis opened the scoring early in the second quarter for the Yellow Jackets (1-2, 1-0) on a 1-yard run. Four minutes later, Evan Jones intercepted a pass from W&L starting quarterback Brooks Fischer and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown to make it 13-0.

The Generals, whose only points of the season came on a safety in their opener against Emory & Henry, had their best chance to score at the end of the third quarter, but the Jackets blocked Drew Thomas' 25-yard field-goal attempt.

W&L's Fischer, a sophomore hampered by a shoulder injury, completed 4 of 8 passes for 28 yards. Sophomore Tommy Rueger came on in relief and was 6-of-13 for 42 yards, while junior Lee Goins completed 1 of 4 attempts for 8 yards. Fischer threw two interceptions, while Rueger and Goins registered one each.

The W&L defense had another strong outing, holding last year's ODAC champion to 249 yards of total offense. Jacket quarterback Andy Bush, who entered the game averaging 144.5 yards per game passing, completed 6 of 9 passes for 60 yards. He was sacked three times.

Macon added its final touchdown with 72 seconds left in the game when Jamison Barnett ran up the middle from 11 yards.
