LAWHORN EARNS 5TH STRAIGHT FCS WIN

It was a topsy-turvy night at Franklin County Speedway, but the end result was much the same.

Rustburg's Dudley Lawhorn, the points leader through 28 races, won the 75-lap Late Model Stock Car feature race of the Hoosier Tires 300 Saturday night. The victory was Lawhorn's fifth in a row and pushed him over the 1,000-point mark for the year.

Most of the action was early in the race, near the back of the pack. Collisions on laps 1, 4, 14, and 35 brought out caution flags, but none of the delays involved any of the front-runners.

Lawhorn finished several seconds ahead of second-place finisher Rodney Cundiff. Bobby Radford, Carl Dadian and Kenny Wagner finished third through fifth, respectively. The top five held their respective positions for nearly the entire race.

Radford, who has won races this season driving a Ford and a Dodge, was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Saturday night.

In other races:

Steve Lam won his 22nd Mini Stock race of the season. James Cox and Tommy Dean finished second and third, respectively.

In the Street Stock class, Mike Elkins won for the sixth time in the last seven races. Points leader Mike Dudley was second, and David Stout placed third in one of his best showings of the season.

Eric Bishop was first across the finish line in the Pure Stock division. Points leader Red Hartman was second, one spot ahead of Jay Peery.

James Hunt won the Rookie race when leader Chad Hodges spun out on the final lap. Ricky Ferguson was second, and Scott Foley took third.

Anthony Bailey won the Truck race.
