HOLLINS COLLEGE PRESIDENT NAMED TO LANDMARK BOARD

Jane Margaret O'Brien, president of Hollins College, has been elected to the board of directors of Landmark Communications Inc.

O'Brien was appointed Sept. 23 to the board of the company which owns eight daily newspapers and The Weather Channel.

She has been president of the private women's college near Roanoke since 1991. O'Brien also sits on the boards of Norfolk Southern Corp., the Council of Independent Colleges of Virginia, and the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges.

Among Landmark's daily newspapers are The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star of Norfolk; the Greensboro (N.C.) News & Record and the Roanoke Times & World-News.

Landmark also owns 31 non-daily newspapers and several magazines, including Chicago Magazine.
