DEPLAZES DISQUALIFIED

NASCAR officials late Monday ruled illegal heads were used on the motor of Aaron Deplazes' Pure Stock car in Saturday and Sunday's races at New River Valley Speedway.

The Newport driver was disqualified from both races, losing a victory in Saturday night's event. Vinton's Robbie Cundiff was awarded the victory in that race. It was his second victory of the season. Sam Sayers of Roanoke moved up to second, and Tony Rogers of Cloverdale was third.

Deplazes also was disqualified from his 12th-place finish in Sunday's race, which was won by Allie.

The disqualifications had no bearing on the division championship at the Radford track, which was won by Davis Phillips of Plum Creek.
