Laurel Park (2-8, 2-6) led 71-70 when Tanya Martin missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw opportunity. Perkins, however, grabbed the rebound and hit a short shot to account for the final margin.
Patrick County (5-9, 5-6) had the ball out of bounds with
6 seconds to play, but never managed a final shot.
Isis Paddyfote led the Lancers with 21 points, Perkins finished with 17 and Brandy Martin had 13. Laurel Park survived despite making just 18 of 38 free throws.
Anitra Huff led Patrick County with 14 points, Holly Weber and Angie Noonkester had 11, and Amy Nelson scored 10.

MARTINSVILLE - Trecita Holland scored 19 points and sophomore Erica Brandon added 16 as Martinsville used a press to create many easy baskets in the first quarter and cruise to the Piedmont District victory.
The Bulldogs (9-2, 8-1) outscored Chatham 20-6 in the first quarter and never looked back. Samantha Ferguson added 10 points for Martinsville.
Jion Word led Chatham (5-4, 5-4) with 16 points.

RIDGEWAY - Felecia Craig scored 11 of her 15 points in first half to stake the Warriors to a 16-point lead on the way to a Piedmont District victory.
Tanesia Kellam scored 14 for Magna Vista (9-3, 6-3) and Nikki Burney added 12.
Gretna was led by 11 points from Cherita Dews and Amber Hall. Miranda Glass scored 10.

Fieldale-Collinsville 41
COLLINSVILLE - Kim Hairston and Patricia Green scored 19 points each to lead the Bengals to a Piedmont District victory over the Cavaliers.
Hairston scored 11 in a 23-point fourth quarter for Bassett (9-2, 8-1), which fought off a tough Fieldale-Collinsville rally in the third quarter.
Cicely Becker scored a team-high 20 points for the Cavailers (5-5, 4-5).

BLAND - Amanda Clark scored seven of her 10 points in the third quarter to help Rocky Gap break open a relatively close game at halftime and go on to the Mountain Empire District win.
Michelle Sarver led the Eagles with 14 points and Nancy Tupper added 11.
Bland (0-8, 0-1) was led by Pachess Umbargar with nine points.

COVINGTON - Amanda Stover made 8 of 12 free throws in the first quarter as the Mountaineers (6-5, 1-0) pulled away early in this Blue Ridge District opener for both teams. Stover, a senior forward, finished with 20 points (14 of 20 foul shooting) to lead Alleghany, which outscored the Wildcats in all four quarters.

RURAL RETREAT - Chilhowie made 12 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off Rural Retreat in a Hogoheegee District matchup.
Joanna Jones made four of five free throws and led Chilhowie (5-3, 5-2) with 17 points. Emily Dungan made four free throws in the quarter and finished with 16 points.
Tanya Tarter led Rural Retreat (7-4, 4-4) with 17 points.

HOT SPRINGS - Toree Morris hit three 3-pointers and scored 17 points to keep the Highlanders unbeaten in Pioneer District play.
Glenvar (9-2, 4-0) bolted to a 38-11 halftime lead and was never challenged. Marlea Hale and Erika Hale scored 15 for the Highlanders.
Bath County (1-10, 0-3) had three players score six points.

MONTEREY - The Knights held the Rams scoreless and went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line in the second quarter on the way to a Pioneer District victory.
Angie Johnson led James River (2-8, 1-3) with 18 points, six of them on free throws in the second quarter when the Knights outscored Highland 10-0.
James River's win overshadowed a fine shooting performance from Highland's April Rexrode, who hit five 3-pointers in accounting for all of her 15 points. The Rams are 1-7, 0-4.

COVINGTON - The Cougars overcame a sluggish first half to bowl over the Fighting Blues in a battle for second place in the Pioneer District.
Covington (7-3, 4-1) used its press to create 16 second-half turnovers and outscore Parry McCluer 35-22 in the final two quarters.
Bessie Laws scored 12 for Covington and Nancy Shawver chipped in 11.
Chrystal Humphries scored 13 for Parry McCluer (9-2, 5-2), Misty Snider had 11 and Lindsey Coleman scored 10.
Monday's games
Blacksburg 58, Alleghany 44: In Covington, the Indians hit six 3-point goals in a non-district victory over the Mountaineers.
April Rogers scored a game-high 22 points for Blacksburg (5-8). Alleghany (5-5) was led by Terry Chapman with 11.
