SPARTANS RIP NORTHSIDE 57-37

Shellie Johnson scored nine of her game-high 22 points in the first quarter and Salem was never headed in a 57-37 victory over Northside in a Blue Ridge District girls' basketball game Tuesday night in Salem.

Johnson's outburst allowed the Spartans to open up a nine-point lead. Sarah Palmer added 15 points for Salem (5-3, 1-0).

Kim Ferrell led Northside with 10 points.

MONTEREY - The Knights held the Rams scoreless and went 8-for-8 from the foul line in the second quarter en route to a Pioneer District victory.

Angie Johnson led James River (2-8, 1-3) with 18 points, six of them on free throws in the second quarter when the Knights overcame a 7-6 deficit by outscoring Highland 10-0.

April Rexrode hit five 3-pointers in accounting for all of her 15 points for the Rams (1-7, 0-4).

HOT SPRINGS - Toree Morris scored 17 points, including three 3-pointers, to keep the Highlanders unbeaten in Pioneer District play.

Marilea Hale and Erika Hale scored 15 for the Highlanders (9-2, 4-0). Bath County (1-10, 0-3) had three players score six points.
