TRANSKRIT SELLING DIVISION

Transkrit Corp., a Roanoke-based manufacturer of speciality business forms, said Wednesday it will sell most of its Miami-based Pegboard and Flat Division to Wilmer Service Line.

The transaction will enable Transkrit to focus on its mailer products in Roanoke, creating six new positions in the company's art department, presses, and warehouses. The deal means the loss of 55 jobs in Florida.

Terms of the cash transaction were not revealed.

The company declined to give salary figures for the new jobs but said its press operators earn $12 to $13 an hour.

Transkrit's Pegboard and Flat Division has annual sales of about $7 million. Wilmer Service Line is a unit of Reynolds + Reynolds Co. of Dayton, Ohio.

Wilmer sells new and replacement pegboards, a business-forms system for handling accounting records in small businesses.

Under the agreement, Wilmer will acquire Transkrit's wholesale pegboard customer list and inventories for pegboard products.

"Those products were a stepchild in our company," said Frank Neubauer, chairman and chief executive officer of Transkrit. "They were not strategic products. We felt that Wilmer Line could do more with those products."

Transkrit, which has 209 employees in Roanoke, will keep all of its mailer products in addition to stock mailers, transcription labels, InfoSeal and laser products, which were previously produced by its divisions in Miami and Chicago.

"Transkrit's pegboard business fits well for Wilmer Service Line," said Tom Suttmiller, senior vice president for Wilmer. "This acquisition further enhances our large pegboard customer base and will add to the capabilities we offer our new and existing customers."

Reynolds + Reynolds is a Fortune 500 company that provides integrated information management systems to automotive, professional, medical and general business markets. Its stock, traded on the New York Stock Exchange, closed Wednesday at $23.75 a share, unchanged from Tuesday's close. Transkrit, a privately held company, relocated last year from Brewster, N.Y.

Until the transaction is completed this December, Transkrit will continue to process and ship all orders.
