Hospital to rent empty Rose's store

WYTHEVILLE - A former Rose's store in Wytheville will be rented by Wythe County Community Hospital for added space and storage starting Nov. 1.

The hospital said Wednesday it will move its home health care offices and some non-clinical departments into the former discount store, which closed earlier this year. Use of the empty store space in the Evansham Shopping Center will allow the hospital to cut its own renovation costs $3.5 million.

``While we are excited about improving our present facility, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to make use of available space that is so close to WCCH and in such a convenient spot for the community,'' said Howard Ainsley, hospital administrator.

Bank of Buchanan targets Troutville

The Bank of Buchanan is seeking permission to establish a new branch at Lee Highway and Mountain Pass Road in Troutville.

H. Watts Steger III, president of Bank of Buchanan, said Wednesday the company made the move to fill the void created by the announcement that NationsBank will leave the community.

Approval is expected from the Virginia Bureau of Financial Institutions within 60 days, he said. The branch is scheduled to open Feb. 1, but an earlier opening is possible if a temporary location can be found.

Bank of Buchanan's future operations center, on Main Street in Buchanan, is due for completion in April. The bank has other offices at Buchanan, Daleville and Eagle Rock.
