COPY VAN INC. has been recognized for superior performance by the Sharp Electronics Corp. for the eighth consecutive year. Steve House and Mike Lindamood of Copy Van received the Hyakuman-Kai award at a recent ceremony in Las Vegas, Nev.
BRANCH HIGHWAYS of Roanoke recently won the Charter Award, an annual safety award from the Virginia Road and Transportation Builders Association.
HOLLINS COLLEGE recently received a national award for fund-raising excellence from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Hollins is one of 21 private liberal arts colleges in the country named to the 1994 Circle of Excellence in Educational Fund Raising.
MELISSA A. LIGHT recently returned to her position as office manager for Evergreen Development Co. owners of Evergreen Burial Park. Light was office manager from September 1993 until November 1993.
WILLIAM D. POE of Waldvogel, Poe & Cronk Real Estate Group Inc. recently received the Society of Industrial Realtors designation.
Poe is a graduate of the Realtors Institute and a member of the Virginia Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. He has been a Realtor for 15 years.
LINDA HAMPTON has been elected president of the Hollins Charter Chapter of American Business Women's Association.
Other recently elected officers for 1994-95 include: Dot Milan, vice president; Elvia Pendleton, secretary; and Helen Mawyer, treasurer.
PAMELA ATKINSON ROANE has been elected president of the Tanglewood Chapter of American Business Women's Association. Other officers 1994-95 include: Mary Perry, vice president; Natalie Talbot, recording secretary; Leah Russell, corresponding secretary; Kathy Page, treasurer.
PETE MILWARD, branch manager of the Roanoke office of J.C. Bradford & Co., was recently named to the Presidents Club of the American Funds Group.
The honor recognizes Milward's superior service to investors and continued excellence in financial counseling in mutual fund investments and variable annuity contracts.
He has worked for J.C. Bradford & Co. since 1981.
BRIAN CENTER, a nursing center in Fincastle, has won an award for outstanding performance among 48 nursing facilities managed by the Brian Center Management Corporation. The award recognizes outstanding nursing care and overall effective management of the facility.
Margaret Jarvis-Springer, administrator, also was honored for outstanding performance. She has been an administrator since December 1993.
MARY ALICE CRUMP FRENCH has been promoted to manager of Kmart in Elizabeth City, N.C. French has worked for Kmart for 18 years and is a former Roanoke resident. The 1966 Lucy Addison High School graduate is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Crump, Roanoke.
EMILEE BOYD , Roanoke, recently retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after 25 years. Boyd started work in 1969 as a skilled laborer and was superintendent of the sign crew for the 12-county Salem transportation district when he retired.
KEITH MINNIX has been promoted to maintenance supervisor at Syborn Chemicals Inc. in Salem. He has has worked for Syborn for 17 years and has been maintenance foreman for the last seven years.
STANARD F. LANFORD JR., has been named to the Virginia Western Community College's Local Advisory Board and will represent Roanoke County.
Lanford is president and CEO of Lanford Brothers Company. He is a native of Martinsburg, W.Va., but later attended schools in Grafton, W.Va. and Roanoke. He received a bachelor of civil engineering degree from the University of Virginia in 1955.
BARRY GLENN has joined North Cross School as director of development.
Glenn came from Southampton Academy, Courtland, and is in the process of completing a doctorate in education from the University of Kentucky.
GINGER FARRELL and STACY MOSES were named Favorite Cashiers for Winn-Dixie stores after a two-week period this summer when customers voted on cashiers.
Farrell works at Mountain View Shopping Center, and Moses works in the Vinton store.
The winning cashiers were selected by customers in both North Carolina and Virginia. Each winner received a luncheon honoring all the winners in the division, an award certificate, a courtesy pin and a $25 gift certificate.
MICHAEL E. LAYNE,district manager for the Roanoke District for the Equitable Life Assurance Society, recently received the Chartered Life Underwriter Designation.
He was also was named leading district manager of the Godsey Agency last year. As a result of that award, he attended the National Achievement Conference in Palm Springs, Calif., where he received another award for the Roanoke District being ranked eighth nationwide within The Equitable for the previous year.
E. MILLER BABER JR. and BRUCE D. ELLIOTT, registered representatives with The Equitable Life Assurance Society in the Roanoke District, have received Chartered Financial Consultant designations.
BRINTHA GIBSON, Salem, has been named Woman of the Year by the Salem Charter Chapter of the American Business Women's Association. Gibson owns Classic Tours.
The award is given annually and is based on achievements in the field, education, community activities and participation in the association. Gibson has been a member in the association since 1985 and is on the Ways and Means Committee.
WANDA P. SEARS, personal financial planner with IDS Financial Services, was recently featured in the company's national magazine, Field Digest.
The story on Sears told of her success in client service and satisfaction and of being named the No. 1 planner in the nation among 7,000 competitors.
DANIEL WOOD, formerly of Salem, has been promoted to senior vice president, regional executive, NationsBank, Mid-Atlantic Region. The 1964 Andrew Lewis High School graduate, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. M.S. Wood, Salem.
Wood's region also was honored as Business of the Year in Howard County, Md.
EDNA B. BROOKS , Roanoke, recently became a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She is a staff accountant with Moore & Campbell, P.C., in Roanoke. She is a graduate of the State University of New York at Albany and attended Virginia Western Community College and Roanoke College.
JUDY SHAFFER, Bridgewater Corners, Vt., has been promoted to audit senior at Smith, Batchelder & Rugg a certified public accountant and management consulting firm with offices in New Hampshire.
Shaffer, daughter of Harold and Jerry Shaffer of Roanoke, graduated from Roanoke College in Salem.

Hollins is one of 21 private liberal arts colleges in the country named to the 1994 Circle of Excellence in Educational Fund Raising. Hollins was selected for overall fund-raising improvement based on the judges' analysis of data submitted to the Council for Aid to Education for its 1993 "Survey of Voluntary Support of Education." Gifts to the college in 1993 increased by 25 percent over 1992 and surpassed $4.5 million.
