COSTELLO, Mae Frances, 83, of Boones Mill, died Thursday morning, October 6, 1994, in a Roanoke hospital. Mrs. Costello was a member of the New York Telephone Pioneers of America and Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church, Roanoke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter G. Costello, Sr. Surviving are her children, Walter G. Costello, Jr., Seneca Castle, N.Y., Sister Mary F. Costello of Sisters of Mercy, Albany, N.Y., Eileen T. Costello (Matzen), an employee of Roanoke Memorial Hospitals and Patrick W. Costello, both of Boones Mill. Also surviving are six grandchildren. A Mass of the Resurection will be held at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church 10 a.m. Saturday with Father Kenneth Stofft officiating. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Cancer Center of Southwest Virginia, an affiliate of Carilion Health Syst em, Roanoke, Va. DALTON, John Edward, (``Ed''), 78, of 603 Pulaski Street, Pulaski, Va. passed away Tuesday, October 4, 1994, at his home. Born January 8, 1916, in Pulaski, Virginia. He was the son of the late John Barney Dalton and Sarah Jane Cox D alton. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Garnett Elmer Dalton, Troy Dalton and Austin Dalton. He was both a member and Elder of Anderson Memorial Presbyterian Church, Pulaski, a member of the American Legion Post #7 Pulaski, a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army and a retired heavy equipment operator with Operating Engineers, Local 157, Roanoke, Va. Surviving his wife, Martha Marie Broyles Dalton, Pulaski, Va.; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Joan Dalton) Clark, Las Vegas, Nevada; two grandchildren, Annemarie Clark, Las Vegas, Nevada, Katie Clark, Las Vegas, Nevada; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Beulah) Rakes, Dublin, Va., Mrs. Norman (Thelma) Byrd, Radford, Va., Mrs. William (Jean) Shell, Salem, Va.; one brother, Paul L. Dalton, Pulaski, Va. Funeral service will be held Saturday 2 p.m. at the Anderson Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Hershey J. Longnecker and Rev. Raymond Riddleburger officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, Va. He was an area manager for a contract cleaning company, an Air Force Veteran of the Viet Nam conflict and a graduate of South Charleston (WVa) High School. He was a resident of Vinton for 5 years and was formerly of South Charleston, WVa. HARTSELL, Walter Eugene Jr., (``Gene""), 63, of Troutville, entered Heaven's gateway on Wednesday, October 5, 1994, after a life of service to Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his father Walter Eugene Hartsell, Sr., and his son Walter E. Hartsell, III. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 39 years, Mary Hartsell and devoted daughter Mary Beth Hartsell, both of Troutville. Other survivors include his mother, Clara Hartsell, Emporia; brother and sister-in-law, David and Virginia Hartsell, Birmingham, Ala.; brother, Reid Hartsell, Emporia; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Bell Braswell, Gasburg; and a host of other relatives and friends. Gene, a retired minister, deeply blessed each person he knew with his continuous, unspoken acts of kindness. An active Lion member, he devoted time to community service and fought vigorously against impaired/intoxicated drivers through the organization he founded, People Against Impaired Drivers. In accordance with his last wishes, a memorial service (only) will be held Saturday, October 8, 1994, 4 p.m. at the Edgewood Christian Church. Pastor Rick Via will be officiating. Family and friends will be received at his home to remember his wonderful life and mourn his passing on Friday, August 7, 1994 from 7 to 9 p.m. Gene wanted his family and friends to remember that through Jesus Christ we have life everlasting and that his death is his Graduation to Glory. KIMBLE, Edward Reymann, 95, of Buena Vista, died Wednesday, October 5, 1994, in a Lexington hospital. He was born September 15, 1899, the son of the late John H. and Minnie Longstreet Kimble. He was retired from Baltimore and Ohio Railroad with 45 years of service. He married Norine Fordyce and they raised five sons and one daughter, all their sons served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. The oldest son Mel, was killed in action in World War II. In 1994 at the age of 95 he came to live with his son, John in Buena Vista. He was preceded in death by two children. He was preceded in death by two other wives, Stella Riley Kimble and Joy Perry Kimble. Surviving are three sons, Albert Donald Kimble, Moundsville, W.Va., John Edward Kimble, Buena Vista, George Caroll Kimble, Ceredo, W.Va.; one daughter, Mary L ou Kimble Pelley, Bushnell, Fla.; one stepson, Dr. Vaughn Newill, Washington, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday 11 a.m. at the Hunt Funeral Chapel, Hundred, W.Va. Burial will follow in the Sand Hill Cemetery, Sand Hill, Pa. LIEB, Robert W., 79, of Buena Vista, died Wednesday, October 5, 1994, after a long illness. He graduated from Roanoke College in 1939 and was a member of the famed ``Five Smart Boys"" basketball team. He was with the American Viscose Corp. in Roanoke before moving to Buena Vista in 1959 to become Manager of Hermetite Corp and retired in 1979. He was an active member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lexington, having served in many capacities for 25 years. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Virginia Erb Lieb; two sons, Robert W. Lieb Jr., and wife Angela, and granddaughter, Tina, of Salem, Stephen Lieb and wife, Linda and grandchildren Emily, Andy and Jeffrey, of Hickory, N .C.; one sister, Elizabeth Henderson, Chattanooga, Tenn.; one sister-in-law, Helen Erb Eller, Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, October 8, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Lexington by the Rev. Brian Peterson. SHUMATE, Mary Etta Martin, 99, of Roanoke, died Thursday, October 6, 1994 at Brandon Oaks Health Care Center. The daughter of the late Christian Luther and Lula Slusser Martin, she was born August 6, 1895 in Montgomery Co., Va. Mrs. Shumate was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, a member of the Ladies Bible Class and the Evangelical Lutheran Church Women. Mrs. Shumate was the widow of the late Frank Milton Shumate. She was retired from Heironimus, with over 40 years of service. She is survived by her sisters, Ida Cassell, Laura Howell, both of Roanoke ; stepdaughters, Elizabeth Braecher, Richardson, Texas, and Virginia Floyd of California; stepgrandchildren, Robbie Williams, Durham, N.C., Kenny Williams and Stuart Williams, both of Marietta, Ga., Joanna Braecher and Richard Braecher, both of Richardson, Texas; and a number of precious nieces and nephews.
