The American Association of University Women's Book and Author Reception will be Nov. 6 at the Holiday Inn, Staunton, from 3-5 p.m.
This year's event spotlights Alice Leonhardt, Howard Owen, Mary Price Coulling and Elizabeth Massie, all of Virginia.
Leonhardt, author of more than 17 young-adult books, is writing a series involving horses and horsemanship with a boarding-school setting.
Owen is the sports editor of The Richmond Times-Dispatch. His first novel, ``Littlejohn,'' made him a finalist for the Discovery Award in 1993. His second novel was released in August.
Coulling has written a biography of Gen. Robert E. Lee's daughters, ``The Lee Girls,'' and ``Margaret Junkin Preston: A Biography,'' published in May, 1993.
``Sineater,'' a first novel by Massie, was the winner of the 1993 Bram Stoker Award. She has also published numerous horror and dark fantasy stories in magazines and anthologies and is working on two novels and a novella.

T-shirts on sale
T-shirts are now on sale to help support the Roanoke City Mounted Patrol Unit. The gray shirts feature the official Mounted Patrol patch printed in gold and blue. Shirts, $13 and $14, are available from the Downtown Incorporated Office and at some downtown events. Call 342-2028.
Christmas parade
The Vinton Chamber of Commerce is accepting entries for the Vinton Christmas Parade to be held Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.
Marching units, decorated floats, clowns and novelty units are encouraged to participate. Cash prizes will be awarded.
Deadline for entries is Nov. 18. The entry fee is $15. Call the Vinton Chamber of Commerce, 343-1364.
