ROANOKER PLACES 2ND IN U.S. PAGEANT

Danice Hunt, the 61-year-old Roanoker who was crowned Ms. Virginia Senior Citizen, won the talent competition and was runner-up in the Ms. National Senior Pageant.

The pageant in Joliet, Ill., concluded Sunday with a competition among 10 finalists.

``She's been working nonstop since [Oct. 3],'' said Estelle McCadden, co-chairwoman of the Ms. Virginia Senior Citizen Pageant. She traveled with Hunt to Illinois.

For her winning performance, Hunt played piano and sang the song, "Here I Am" - the same gospel tune she performed to win the Ms. Virginia talent competition in late August.

Hunt has played piano since childhood and sings in the St. Gerard's Catholic Church gospel choir. She received $400 in cash and a green marble plaque with the heading, "Ms. Talent."
