PLANE CRASHES, KILLS 1 PERSON

One person was killed when a single-engine plane crashed near Fancy Gap Sunday evening.

A Cessna 172 plane was flying from Bluefield, W.Va., to Winston-Salem, N.C., when it crashed near the Blue Ridge Parkway in Carroll County, state police said.

Police have not released any information about the fatality, or whether anyone else was on board.

Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board officials began investigating the crash this morning.
