AYERS, Ila Goad, 86, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, October 10, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luster O. Ayers; and a son, Milton B. Ayers. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Ray L. Ayers, Nelson M. and Peggy Ayers, Bobby L. and Phyllis H. Ayers, all of Roanoke; brother, Austin Goad, of Floyd; sisters, Larmie Almond, of Roanoke, Clara Clement, Agnes Blizzard, both of Mt. Airy, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m., Wednesday at Oakey's North Chapel by the Rev. Bruce A. Noffsinger. Interment will follow in Blue Ride Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday at Oakey's North Chapel.

BOLT, French Edward, Sr., 75, of Hillsville, passed away Sunday, October 9, 1994, at his home. He was born in Virginia on July 29, 1910. He is survived by his wife, Amy Jackson Boyer Bolt; son, French Edward Bolt, Jr., Gastonia, N.C.; sister, Clara Mae Quesenberry, Kingsport, Tenn.; brother, Harold Bolt, Pulaski; two grandsons, French Edward Bolt, III and Chadwick Boyer Bolt. Funeral services 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, 1994, at the Hillsville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nathan Malone officiating. BREEDING, James Luther Jr., 78, of Pembroke, died Monday morning, October 10, 1994, at his home following a long illness. Born in Giles County, he was a son of the late James Luther, Sr. and Virgie Mae Cumbee Breeding. He was a retired employee of the Foote Mineral Co. at Kimballton, Va. and was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Claudine Dowdy Breeding, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by his son, Roger Lee Dowdy of Pembroke; three sisters, Rosetta Dowdy, Eller Breeding, and Effie Sarver, all of Pembroke. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Va. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke.

BRITTAN, Francis L., 73, of the 5200 block of Pleasant Hall Dr., Virginia Beach, died Monday, October 10, 1994 in a local hospital. Mr. Brittan was a native of Jacksonville, Florida. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech and the U S Coast Guard Naval Academy. He was retired from the U S Coast Guard after 25 years of service. He was the widower of Virginia Doris Brittan. He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, Va. Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Carol Brittan of Virginia Beach, Barbara B. Burgess of Chesapeake, Mary Beth B. Martin of Virginia Beach; two sons, Francis L. ``Buddy"" Brittan Jr. of Chesapeake, Michael Ancel Brittan of Virginia Beach; a sister, Mary Elle n Miles of Roanoke; two brothers, D. Eugene Brittan of Virginia Beach, James W. Brittan of Vienna, W. Va. and 11 grandchildren. A church service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, 1994 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church by the Rev. Anselm Ober O.S.B. Burial will be at Rosewood Memorial Park following the church service. There will be a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. Tuesday in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. H. D. COCHRAN, Nina Weddle, 86, of Hillsville, passed away Sunday, October 9, 1994, at Eldercare of Hillsville. She was born February 12, 1908 in Carroll County. She was the daughter of Simon Weddle and Lizza Sutphin Weddle. She is survived by her husband, Bob Cochran; son and daughter-in-law, Benton and Elsie Cochran, Hillsville; daughter and son-in-law, Estelle and James Burnette, Richmond; sister, Maggie Cochran, Hillsville; four grandchildren, Bobby Burnette, Cindy Combs, Kim Bunn and Mike Cochran; one great-grandson, Robert Brady (Bo) Bunn. COX, Earl S., 86, of Independence, passed away Sunday, October 9, 1994 at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C. He was preceded in death by his wife, Amma R. Cox. He was born March 3, 1908 in Fox, Va. to Isom and Della Wheatley Cox. He was a retired sales clerk of Washington Mills Store, Fries, Va. He was a member of Bethany U. M. Church, member of Independence Masonic Lodge #129 A.F. & A.M., and a member of Independence Chapter No. 89, O.E.S. Surviving are his sister, Mattie Mae Smith, Roanoke, brother and sister-in-law, Zebb and Thelma Cox, Blacksburg, sister-in-law, Anne Cox, Dublin; and several nieces and nephews. Fune ral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. James Fain and the Rev. Fred E. Jennings officiating. FRANCIS, Virginia Duncan, 78, of Marion, widow of Dr. David L. Francis, died Monday, October 10, 1994, in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home. She is survived by three sons, Jim Francis, Anchorage, Alaska, Robert Francis and Dr. Donald Francis, both of Marion; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 12 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Dr. J. N. Howard and Rev. Edgar Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. McCORMICK, Marjorie Henson, 74, of Buena Vista, died October 9, 1994, at a Buena Vista Nursing Home. She was born in Buena Vista, February 20, 1920, the daughter of the late William M. and Myrtle Lynn Henson. For 13 years, she was a Nurses Aid and for 15 years, a LPN at the Stonewall Jackson Hospital, a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren and taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Shenandoah Stroke Club, Fishersville, and one of the founders and the first president of the Rockbridge County Stroke Club. Surviving are her husband, Lewis W. McCormick; one daughter, Martha Lou Shafer, Waynesboro; one brother, Horace M. Henson, Buena Vista; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Lewis Shafer, Waynesboro and Lynn McCray Shafer, Greensboro, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Stone Brethren Church by the Rev. Terry Shumaker. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. McKINNEY, Daniel W., 65, of Roanoke, died Sunday, October 9, 1994. He was one of the original founders of Recreational Soccer in the Roanoke Valley. He served as Soccer Commissioner for Roanoke City and Roanoke County. Mr. McKinney was also the first V.H.S.L. Soccer Commissioner for Southwest Virginia. He served as Coach at Cave Spring Junior High School and later served as varsity boys soccer Coach at Cave Spring High School. Surviving is his wife, Sarah K. McKinney; children, Daniel W. McKinney, Charles McKinney, and Sarah Virginia McKinney; sister and brother-in-law, Jessie and Gerard Pietrafesa, New York; and a faithful companion, Susie. Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Kenneth Stofft will officiate. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel after 1pm Tuesday where the family will receive friends from 4 to 9 pm..

MORGAN, Gladys Bell Brown, 80, of Lexington, died Monday, October 10, 1994, in the Shenandoah Valley Health Care Center. Mrs. Morgan was born February 2, 1914, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Harry M. Brown, Sr. and Florence Lindsay Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin R. Morgan, four brothers, Gilbert Brown, John Brown, James Brown and Harry Brown, Jr., two half sisters, Violet Speer and Helen Hinkel, one half brother, Houston McManama. Surviving are a son, Dennis R. Morgan, Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Louise B. Withers, Buena Vista. Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 1994, at the graveside in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery officiated by Father J. Morton Biber. PLUMMER, Mrs. Izetta Watterson, 70, of Plainfield, N.J., formerly of Roanoke, died Friday, October 7, 1994, at home. Mrs. Plummer was born and raised in Roanoke, Va., she moved to Plainfield 33 years ago. She was a member of the Plainfield Booster Club and Jaycees for which she received the Woman of the Year Award in 1992. Mrs. Plummer is survived by her husband, Dr. Justin Plummer, a retired Psychiatrist; eight sons, Justin II, Oakland, Calif., Roderick, New York City, N.J., Maurice, Sunbury, Pa., Kevin, Midlothian, Va., Geoffrey, Greggory, Eric and Stephan Plummer, all of Plainfield, N.J.; one daughter, Karen Michele Plummer, Roanoke, Va.; one brother, Clifford R. Watterson, Brooklyn, N.Y.; ten grandchildren. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 11, 1994, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West Eighth Street, Plainfield, N.J. RASH, Margaret Kegley, 88, of Wytheville, died Monday, October 10,1994. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel.

SCHLOSSBERG, Arnold Jr., Major General, of Orland Park, Ill, died October 4, at Palos Community Hospital. Graveside services with full miliary honors will be held Wednesday, October 12 at 11 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery, Fort Meyers, Va. General Schlossberg served 33 years in the Army before retiring in 1991. Born in New York City, N.Y. he grew up in Roanoke. He graduated from Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg, Pa. in 1954 and in 1958 from the Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, Va. with a B.A. in English. He earned a Masters degree in International Affairs from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. He was selected as a senior fellow in 1979 and taught at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass. He was made a brigadier general in 1958, and then major general. He served as deputy director, stratgy and Plans, the joint Chiefs of staff. He then served as the deputy assistant secretary of state, Politco-Military Affairs to Secretary of State Schultz. His last assignment was a deputy was as deputy assistant secretary of defense where he was in charge of the miliary's participation in the war on drugs. During his career he served in Vietnam Korea, Germany and Central America, earning the Defence Distinguished Service Medal, Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Services Medal, Bronze Star and numerous other co mmendations and medals.

After retiring from the miliary, Maj. Gen. Schlossberg moved to Orland Park, and became one of the founders of National Insurance Crime Bureau, of which he became the first president and chief executive officer. The company was chartered in 1992, and be became known as an expert in insurance crime issues. He retired in March due to his illness. Survivors include his wife, Jolene Schlossberg, of the home; a daughter, Brandi Joy Schlossberg, of the home; a son, William Schlossberg, Lombard, Ill.; two sisters, Nancy Giannasi, Manassas, and Deda Miller, Colorado. General Schlossberg was the son of the late Alice and Arnold Schlossberg of Roanoke. In lieu, of flowers, memorials to Loyola University Medical Center Cancer Research, 2160 S. 1st Ave., Maywood, Ill., 60153, would be appreciated.

SLAYTON, Elizabeth Perkins, 83, of Glasgow, died Sunday, October 9, 1994 at her home. Mrs. Slayton was born July 15, 1911 in Halifax County, a daughter of the late William T. Perkins and Cornelia Ann Perkins. She was a member of the Glasgow Baptist Church. Mrs. Slayton and her late husband, Walter T. Slayton Sr., owned and operated several businesses in the Glasgow area for many years. She was also preceded in death by a son, Walter T. Slayton Jr., four brothers and one sister. Surviving are three grandchildren; Shelby S. Reneski, St. Louis, Mo., Bryan T. Slayton, Glasgow, Teresa S. Coy, Frankfurt, Germany; one great-grandchild; four nieces and six nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m Wednesday, October 12, 1994 at the Glasgow Baptist Church, with the Rev. William Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Glasgow Cemetery. SUTTON, Anna R., 98, of Roanoke, died Sunday, October 9, 1994, in a Roanoke hospital. Mrs. Sutton was the widow of Felix O. Sutton. She was the last surviving Charter Member of Stealey United Methodist Church in Clarksburg, W.Va. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, William O. and Marion F. Sutton, Roanoke. She was taken from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel to Davis Funeral Home, 443 West Pike St., Clarksburg, W.Va. 26301, for funeral and interment.

THACKER, Fred A., 64, of Martinsville, Va., died Saturday, October 8, 1994, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He received his B.S. Degree from the University of Alabama, did graduate work at the University of Virginia and retired from the Martinsville School System after thirty two years service. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and was preceded in death by his father, Chaffin C. Thacker Sr. He was also a member of the Human Society. He is survived by his mother, Laura Collins Thacker, Austinville; two sisters, Madeline Thacker, Austinville, Louise Thacker, Roanoke; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Chaffin Jr. and Lorene Thacker, Billy and Frances Thacker, all of Austinville, Bobby and Jane Thacker of Jefferson City, Tenn.; two nieces, six nephews; one great-nephews; one great-niece; also survive. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 12, 1994, at 2:30 p.m. at the West End Cemetery in Wytheville, Va. with father, Brian Rafferty officiating. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 12:30 to 2 pm Wednesday. WALLACE, Anna Belle, 76, of Salem, died Friday, October 7, 1994. She is survived by two sisters, Julia Davis, and Susie Smith, both of Roanoke; one brother, Frank Taylor, of Troutville; and a host of relatives and friends. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 12, 1994, 11 a.m. at the Greenfield Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Young and Rev. Corwin Casey officiating. A wake will be held Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Rader Funeral Home, Troutville.

YEATTS, Aubrey Newton, 78, of Roanoke, died Monday, October 10, 1994, in a Salem hospital. He was a World War II Veteran. He was a 50 year member of the Woodman of the World and a member of Melrose Baptist Church. He was a member of Villa Heights Lions Club and he was retired from General Electric in Salem. He is survived by his wife, Hattie Wray Yeatts; three sons and daughters-in laws, David and Brenda M. Yeatts, Dennis P. and Kathy W. Yeatts, both of Vinton, Aubrey (``Skip"") Jr. and Debbie Yeatts of Roanoke County; one brother, Carroll V. Yeatts, Gretna; two sisters, Bernice Wood, Gretna; Verna Hunt, Washgton, D.C.; seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 12, 1994, at 10 a.m. at the Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Larry East Sprouse officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park.
