BLACKSBURG - The American Red Cross has opened its New River Donor Center, 130 Jackson St., formerly Eat at Joe's restaurant.
The center will be open every Thursday from noon to 6 p.m.
The faculty is designed to encourage appointments and is considerate of blood donors with tight schedules.
The center is planning a grand opening ceremony for early November.

Transportation forum
BLACKSBURG - The Blacksburg Federation of Neighborhoods will hold a public forum on transportation topics in the New River Valley Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Town Council Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building.
The panelists are John Edwards, vice mayor of the City of Roanoke; Roger Hedgepeth, mayor of the Town of Blacksburg; Lorinda Lionberger, member of the Transportation Board of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Salem; and Mary Rhoades, past president of the New River Group of the Sierra Club.
Although interested in all public opinion regarding local transportation issues, the federation is looking for input on the following questions:
What are the most critical highway needs?
What alternatives to highways should be considered?
In addition to monetary costs, what other prices will be paid to build new roads?
What benefits do you envision from the priorities you selected?
The forum will be televised on WTOB (Blacksburg Cable Channel 2).
