STAUNTON RIVER TOPS NELSON CO.

Staunton River was 10-for-10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to complete a come-from-behind 43-40 victory over Nelson County in a Seminole District game Tuesday.

Staunton River (9-3, 9-3) trailed 23-13 at halftime after scoring only four points in the first quarter. The Golden Eagles were led by Deana Mitchell, who scored 13 points, and Courtney Hurd, who added 11.

Rocky Gap 39

NARROWS - Becky Turner scored eight of her team-high 13 points in the fourth quarter and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Narrows past Rocky Gap in a Mountain Empire District game.

The Green Wave (6-6, 2-1) outscored the Eagles 20-5 in the fourth quarter. Suzanne Webb added 11 points and Melissa Lucas chipped in 10.

Rocky Gap was led by Nancy Tupper, who scored a game-high 15 points. Amanda Clark scored 11.

TAZEWELL - Amanda Peery scored eight of her 13 points in the fourth quarter as Tazewell held on to defeat Blacksburg in a non-district game.

The Bulldogs were led by Starr Anderson, who scored 18 points. Suzanne Groseclose added 12.

Blacksburg was led by Lisa Price, who scored a game-high 25 points and hit two 3-pointers, and April Rogers, who scored 10 points.

MARION - The Scarlet Hurricane (12-1) used a full-court press to build an 11-point first-quarter lead and coasted to the non-district victory.

SHAWSVILLE - Heather Wilburn scored eight points in the third quarter - most of them coming on fastbreaks after turnovers - as the Spartans ran away from the Shawnees (6-6, 1-1) in a Three Rivers District game.

Giles (9-3, 3-0), which is tied with Floyd County for the Three Rivers lead heading into Thursday's game with the Buffaloes, forced 40 turnovers.

BEDFORD - Sue Cowlbeck scored 11 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead a balanced Liberty attack as the Minettes blew past Buckingham County in a Seminole District game.

Liberty (9-4, 9-4) was led by Lisa Miller, who scored a game-high 13 points.
